Hello, everyone!! Welcome back to my blog. Today I’d like to talk about working style in Britain and Japan. Take a look at what the difference is.
Working time

🇬🇧In Britain🇬🇧
Many people in the UK work for five days, Monday through Friday, on weekdays. Full-time work is 35-40 hours a week, 8 hours a day. Working hours are from 8 am, 9 am to 5 pm, 6 pm. Then, British people works silently by themselves during work and returns as soon as the time comes. Most people go home after 5 or 10 minutes on time. They may work overtime for about 30 minutes, but this is not common. Because by law, companies cannot work workers more than 48 hours a week. Therefore, it is very rare to work until 22:00 or 23:00 like in Japan.
🇯🇵In Japan🇯🇵
It is said that Japanese working hours are very long. It is natural that there is overtime. Some people work overtime because they have a lot of work, but many people work overtime together because their boss is working overtime and it is difficult to go home, and somehow they work overtime after work. It seems that the overtime work may not be paid due to the service overtime work.
I felt that switching between work and private life was solid in Britain . Compared to British people who often finish their work at 5 or 6 pm, there are many people who work late at night in Japan, so I thought it would be stressful. I hope that work style reforms will improve long working hours in Japan.
Paid holiday

🇬🇧In Britain🇬🇧
It’s easy to take long vacations in Britain, and many say they’re working for a holiday. In Britain, they believe that enjoying a holiday can refresh your body and soul and improve your work efficiency. Also as British saying goes, “Work to live, do n’t live to work”, we value our private life. For example, in Britain, not only holiday leave, but also maternity leave, men’s maternity leave, and sick leave are paid. When a wife gives birth, the husband also takes maternity leave to support the wife after giving birth. In Britain, paid holiday cannot be carried over to the next year, so people are told to use it up.
🇯🇵In Japan🇯🇵
Japan’s paid acquisition rate is said to be the lowest in the world. It is also said that it is difficult to use up all paid leave in Japan. It is said that Japanese people do not take paid holiday for reasons such as “there is a workplace atmosphere where it is difficult to take paid holidays, and everyone does not take paid holidays” or “it causes trouble for colleagues when I take a rest.”
Conclusion
I found that the way of working is completely different between England and Japan. I thought that the UK was more worker-friendly because it was easier to take paid holiday than in Japan. For me spending time in Japan, the way to work in Britain felt very fresh. Upon further investigation, I was interested in thinking that working styles would be different in countries other than Britain and Japan.
When I first came to Japan I was really shocked that people were scared or embarrassed to take paid holiday leave. We all need a refresher and I wish people could do it and be comfortable with it.
Natsumi, your Title is strange. “What is the working style” of WHAT? You’re missing the subject.
Good writing otherwise though.
