Treatment of Women

Hello, everyone! Welcome back to my blog. Today’s last blog 😿 My last blog’s topic is treatment of women in Britain and Japan. I will compare with Britain and Japan.

💼Work & Work wages💵

First, I’ll write about work and work wages. Looking at the degree of social participation of women in Britain, politically, 220 female members of the House of Representatives were elected in the general election in December 2019. This is 34% of the capacity (650). In this way, many women are advancing into society. However, there still seems to be a gender pay gap. Next, let’s look at the wage gap between men and women. All companies with more than 250 employees and public institutions such as hospitals, universities, the military, municipalities and charities are required to disclose information about the gender pay gap. The gender gap was clear in 80% of the companies and organizations that responded. As you can see, there still seems to be a gender pay gap.

It is not that women are not advancing into society at all in Japan, but it seems that the wage gap between men and women is large. Japan has the highest wage gap between men and women among the major developed countries (G7). The salary of women is about 75% of that of men even if they are full-time employees.

🧹Housework, Childcare🤱

In Britain, mothers and fathers share housework and childcare. The average time a husband spends time doing housework in an English family is 2 hours and 46 minutes. The father is responsible for cooking, and the mother is responsible for cleaning and washing. However, the share of household chores was 34.8%, ranking 14th out of 33 countries surveyed. From this result, it can be seen that women still have a greater burden of housework and childcare.

In Japan, the share of housework is said to be the lowest. It seems that there is still a tendency in Japan that women do household chores. Another reason why Japanese men do not do housework or childcare seems to be that they are too busy. Women are more burdened than in Britain.

🧑‍🦳Ladies First👩

There is a ladies first culture in Britain. It is a word that indicates the manners of ladies in the upper class of Europe (women prepare first and welcome men, women finish first, women leave first and do not participate in men’s conversations, etc.). But, nowadays this means that men treat women priority and priority. British men open doors, pull chairs, and bring luggage for women. Of course, there are some Japanese men who do Ladies First, but there are few compared to British men. This is probably because some Japanese women are not good at Ladies First. I thought that I should not forget my gratitude if I had it.

🌼Conclusion🌼

So far, I have talked about the treatment of women in Britain and Japan. I thought that the treatment of women was more forgiving in Britain than in Japan. I also found that women are advancing into society in both countries.

This is the end of my blog. I learned a lot by writing blogs on various topics. I really enjoyed it. See you again! Thank you for reading my blog 🌷

Traveling with children

Hello, everyone!! Welcome back to my blog. Today I would like to write about traveling with children in Britain. Also I will compare with in Japan. I will introduce what you need for your traveling and recommended travel destinations.

🧳What you need for your traveling ?🗺

First, I will talk about what you need for your traveling, especially with children. I talk about three things.

Towel

Towels not only wipe wet items, but also serve as warm clothing. Bath towels are very convenient because they can be used as a measure against the cold of children and as a substitute for a seat when sitting.

Sterilization sheet, disinfection

This is essential not only for having children, but also for traveling, as COVID-19 is going around world right now. People don’t know where COVID-19 is lurking, so we need to disinfect it. Recently, the number of places installed in stores is increasing, but you should bring it yourself. Also, disinfecting your hands will dry them, so it is recommended that you bring your hand cream with you.

Trunki

Trunki is the one I would recommend most for traveling with children. Simply say, this is a children’s suitcase. There are various patterns such as animals and characters, and they are colorful. It can also be used as a vehicle for children, and parents can pull it with a string while the child is on it. It seems that it has become very popular since it was introduced on a British TV program. You can see it in Japan as well as at airports and train stations.

👒Where do you go with your family for fun?🎡

Park

Britain has more greenery and more parks than Japan. There is a large green grass in the English park and there is a playground where children can play safely. And in most cases, there is a cafe (restaurant). So both adults and children can enjoy it. Here, I will introduce the Diana Memorial Playground.

⭐︎ Diana Memorial Playground ⭐︎

It is a very popular park with North American indigenous tents and pirate ships in the shape of Peter Pan’s world. This children’s wonderland opened on the 30th June 2000, in memory of the late Princess. There are also galleries and gardens around the Diana Memorial Playground, which you can enjoy all day long.

Warner Bros. Studios Tour

This is a popular Warner Bros. theme park. You can see the actual set of the movie Harry Potter series and experience the magic behind the scenes. Harry Potter, which is popular with children and adults, can be enjoyed not only by fans but also by non-fans. Don’t forget that the tour is a tour format and there is no same-day ticket sales and you must make a reservation in advance on the official website!

🇯🇵 In Japan 🇯🇵

In Japan, popular places with children are theme parks such as aquariums, zoos, Disney Resorts and Universal Studios Japan. The most popular is the Churaumi Aquarium in Okinawa Prefecture. You can experience the sea of Okinawa in the large aquarium, which is the first in the world to breed multiple whale sharks and manta rays.

🌼Conclusion🌼

I don’t think there is much difference between England and Japan in what you need for your trip. I also felt that there are attractive travel destinations in both England and Japan. Currently, with COVID-19, you cannot get to where you want to go right away. I hope that COVID-19 will end soon and everyone will be able to travel.

Thank you for reading my blog 🌷

British Holidays and Christmas!!

Hello, everyone!! Welcome back to my blog. Today I would like to talk about British holidays and Christmas. Also I will compare the way these events are spent with the Japanese.

🏖Holidays🎃

There are various holidays in Britain. In addition to Christmas, Easter, New Year’s Day, and Halloween, which everyone knows, there are also holidays that are unique to Britain, such as Bank Holiday and Pancake Day. So I will talk about Easter.

🐰Easter🐣

Easter is the Easter of Jesus Christ. It is said to be the most important day of the year for Christians. It is also said to have the meaning of celebrating the arrival of spring as well as Easter. Easter days are not fixed and are different every year. Because we celebrate on the Sunday after the first full moon, after the vernal equinox day. 2021 Easter will be Sunday, April 4th. Many people spend their Easter holidays, including Easter, as follows: Participate in church mass, Prohibit intake of meat, dairy products, bread, etc. until Easter Day, Eat meat and dairy dishes on Sundays. People basically spend time with their family and relatives. Everyone will decorate the eggs and rabbits that symbolize Easter, children will be given chocolate in the shape of eggs, and they will look for hidden Easter eggs.

In Japan, it seems less familiar than Halloween or Christmas. However, at Disney Resort and Universal Studios Japan, events are held during Easter. Characters are Easter-style, souvenirs and goods are in the shape of eggs, and rabbits and chicks are used.

🎄Christmas🎁

On Christmas day in Britain, families and relatives get together and spend a relaxing time eating. Almost all shops, public transport and tourist spots are closed on Christmas Day. In a typical British family with children, wait for Christmas using the “Advent Calendar”, a calendar for counting the deadlines until Christmas. There are 25 “windows” on the calendar, and children open the “windows” on the calendar every day and look forward to the period until Christmas. British people generally have a habit of sending Christmas cards to friends, colleagues and acquaintances on Christmas day. This seems to be similar to the custom of sending Japanese New Year’s cards.

In Japan, of course, some people spend time with their families, but many also spend time with their boyfriend or girlfriend and friends. The British people spend their time at home with their families, while the Japanese go out to eat and see the illuminations. I also went out to eat with my friends on Christmas Eve. I had a friend who was working part-time on Christmas day. I’m sure this is unthinkable in England.

🌼Conclusion🌼

You can see that there are different ways of spending the same holiday in Britain and Japan. Many holidays such as overseas such as England have permeated Japan. The way of spending is different, but there are different ways to enjoy it, and I think it’s good.

Thank you for reading my blog 🌷

Family in Britain

Hello, everyone!! Welcome back to my blog. Today I would like to write about family in Britain. Also I will write about the differences from Japanese families.

Family members

First I’m going to talk about family members in Britain and Japan.

🇬🇧 In Britain 🇬🇧

It is said that there are many people living nearby rather than living together in Britain. According to a 1995 survey, 67% of parents live where they can go to see their children (including unmarried and married) in less than an hour. Moreover, half of them lived within 15 minutes. However, the number of three-generation households is increasing in Britain. It has increased from 167,000 households in 1996 to 323,000 households in 2016. The reason why the number of three-generation households is increasing is that it can be a solution to financial problems and aging problems. For these reasons, the number of three-generation households will increase.

🇯🇵 In Japan 🇯🇵

In Japan, the number of three-generation households is decreasing in contrast to Britain. The proportion of three-generation households has decreased from about 45% in 1986 to 11% in 2016. On the other hand, the number of single-person households and households with only couples is increasing. The reason why the number of single-person households and households with only married couples is increasing is probably related to the way Japanese people work. In Japan, not only men but also women work late into the night. Therefore, there are many unmarried people and households without children, and the number of single-person households and households with only couples is increasing.

How to enjoy with family

Next I will talk about “How to enjoy with family?” It seems that there are some similarities and some differences between Britain and Japan.

🇬🇧 In Britain 🇬🇧

In Britain, the whole family does a lot of things. For example, the whole family eats meals, goes out to the park for a picnic on holidays, and goes to pubs and restaurants. Also, Britain values the event very much. Especially on Christmas, families get together and spend a relaxing time. In Japan, Christmas is often spent with lovers and parties with friends, but in Britain, Christmas is just a time for the family. Enjoying a gorgeous meal with your family and watching Queen Elizabeth’s Christmas speech on TV every year seems to be one of the classic events.

🇯🇵 In Japan 🇯🇵

On the other hand, in Japan, it seems that the whole family rarely eats. Parents work together and children sometimes eat alone. On weekdays, family gathering time is short, but on holidays, people go out and eat together like British people. In addition, there are events that Japanese people cherish, such as Christmas in Britain. That is New Year. On New Year’s Day, families and relatives get together to eat Osechi and spend a relaxing time. It is the same in both Britain and Japan that families get together at an event and spend time together. It is the same in both England and Japan that families get together at an event and spend time together.

Conclusion

There were some differences between Britain and Japan, such as family structure and how to spend time with the family. However, although the event is different, I also found that the event is important and the place where the family gathers is the same. I spend the day of the event with my family and a few days before that with my friends. However, there are times when I can’t eat with my family because of my part-time job, so I decided to spend more time with my family like British people.

What is the Working Style?

Hello, everyone!! Welcome back to my blog. Today I’d like to talk about working style in Britain and Japan. Take a look at what the difference is.

Working time

🇬🇧In Britain🇬🇧

Many people in the UK work for five days, Monday through Friday, on weekdays. Full-time work is 35-40 hours a week, 8 hours a day. Working hours are from 8 am, 9 am to 5 pm, 6 pm. Then, British people works silently by themselves during work and returns as soon as the time comes. Most people go home after 5 or 10 minutes on time. They may work overtime for about 30 minutes, but this is not common. Because by law, companies cannot work workers more than 48 hours a week. Therefore, it is very rare to work until 22:00 or 23:00 like in Japan.

🇯🇵In Japan🇯🇵

It is said that Japanese working hours are very long. It is natural that there is overtime. Some people work overtime because they have a lot of work, but many people work overtime together because their boss is working overtime and it is difficult to go home, and somehow they work overtime after work. It seems that the overtime work may not be paid due to the service overtime work.

I felt that switching between work and private life was solid in Britain . Compared to British people who often finish their work at 5 or 6 pm, there are many people who work late at night in Japan, so I thought it would be stressful. I hope that work style reforms will improve long working hours in Japan.

Paid holiday

🇬🇧In Britain🇬🇧

It’s easy to take long vacations in Britain, and many say they’re working for a holiday. In Britain, they believe that enjoying a holiday can refresh your body and soul and improve your work efficiency. Also as British saying goes, “Work to live, do n’t live to work”, we value our private life. For example, in Britain, not only holiday leave, but also maternity leave, men’s maternity leave, and sick leave are paid. When a wife gives birth, the husband also takes maternity leave to support the wife after giving birth. In Britain, paid holiday cannot be carried over to the next year, so people are told to use it up.

🇯🇵In Japan🇯🇵

Japan’s paid acquisition rate is said to be the lowest in the world. It is also said that it is difficult to use up all paid leave in Japan. It is said that Japanese people do not take paid holiday for reasons such as “there is a workplace atmosphere where it is difficult to take paid holidays, and everyone does not take paid holidays” or “it causes trouble for colleagues when I take a rest.”

Conclusion

I found that the way of working is completely different between England and Japan. I thought that the UK was more worker-friendly because it was easier to take paid holiday than in Japan. For me spending time in Japan, the way to work in Britain felt very fresh. Upon further investigation, I was interested in thinking that working styles would be different in countries other than Britain and Japan.

What are leisure and fun for British and Japanese people?

Hello everyone! Welcome back to my blog. In this blog, I will introduce how to enjoy and spend leisure time in England and Japan. What do you usually do in your leisure time? Take a look at this blog to find new ways to spend your leisure time.

🇬🇧 In Britain 🇬🇧

First of all, I would like to talk about how British people spend their leisure time.

◎Go to the park◎

There are so many parks in Britain. People do a lot of things there. For example, walking, jogging, yoga, Pilates, etc., each person has their own way of spending time in the park. Of course, not only people who are exercising, but also people who are talking with friends or lying on the grass. Also, it seems that many people have picnics. Bring their own sandwiches or buy them at a nearby supermarket and enjoy. There are many families, and the park is very busy on holidays.

◎Holding a party◎

In Britain, even if it’s not a special event or birthday, you can get together with friends and have a party. They also have a barbecue. They sometimes enjoys drinking alcohol from noon and talking with his friends until night. Of course, going to pubs is also popular. It seems that British people often enjoy talking with friends while drinking alcohol.

◎Go to museums◎

There are many museums and galleries in Britain. That’s why British people often visit museums and galleries. There are also free national museums and galleries in mainland England! Of course, it is also a famous museum such as the British Museum. All museums and galleries are fascinating. The British Museum is said to take three days to see the entire facility. It may be difficult to visit many museums and galleries in one day, so it may be a good idea to visit different places every week.

🇯🇵 In Japan 🇯🇵

Next, I will talk about how to spend leisure time in Japan.

◎Spend at home◎

Many Japanese seem to spend their leisure time at home. For example, watching TV, watching a movie, reading a book, rumbling, and so on. According to a 2018 survey*, 20% of Japanese are active, while more than 50% are relaxed. Also, many people want to use their leisure time to rest their mind and body, so it seems that many Japanese people spend their leisure time at home like this. *Japanese survey in 2018 https://myel.myvoice.jp/products/detail.php?product_id=24412

◎Go shopping◎

After spending time at home, the most popular way to spend leisure time with Japanese people is to go shopping. Go shopping at shopping malls and outlet parks. I also go to cafes and eat out in between. However, it seems that online shopping is increasing due to the influence of the coronavirus. If the coronavirus goes down, more active Japanese may increase.

🌼 Conclusion 🌼

As you can see from this blog, it seems that the way of spending leisure time is a little different between England and Japan. Of course, there are some parts where British and Japanese spend their leisure time in the same way. However British seem to be more active than the Japanese.

Was there a way to spend your leisure time in this? Did it look like Britain or Japan? I prefer to go shopping and go to different places in my leisure time rather than staying at home, so it may be a British way of spending. I can’t go out a lot now because of the coronavirus, but when it’s over, I’d like to go to more places.

British foods and restaurants

Hello Everyone ! Welcome back my blog. Today I will talk about popular British foods and restaurants. Is there any British food you can imagine? Please take a look. Also, l’d like to talk about there foods match Japanese tongue.

Top 4 best Foods in Britain

There are many British dishes in Britain . Here are four of the most popular dishes.

◎Fish and Chips◎

Speaking of British foods, we can image this food! It is not too much to say that fish and chips are the most famous. This is fried white fish such as cod with thick french fries. In Britain, it is common to eat with salt and malt vinegar. Also, some shops may serve mashed potatoes or mashed green peas. Depending on the restaurant, the type of white fish, how to cut potatoes, and what is attached will be different, so you can enjoy it.

◎Scotch Egg◎

This is a boiled egg wrapped in minced meat and fried like a croquette. Minced meat is seasoned with pepper and nutmeg, so you can eat it without adding anything. The hardness of egg yolk seems to be different depending on the store. Scotch eggs are said to have been first marketed by Fortnum & Mason (British department store) in 1738. Scotch eggs have long been popular as an easy-to-eat dish.

◎Shepherd’s pie◎

Shepherd’s pie is a British home-cooked dish made from minced lamb or beef, topped with mashed potatoes instead of pie crust.Originally, as the name suggests, it is a shepherd’s dish, so the one that uses minced lamb is called Shepherd’s pie. On the other hand, those who used minced beef were called cottage pies. However, both now seem to be called Shepherd’s pie. It seems to fit the Japanese taste well, so I definitely want to try it.

◎Roast Beef◎

Roast beef is eaten by sprinkling gravy sauce on meat that has been steamed in the oven. It is also called Sunday roast because it is a British tradition and is eaten as lunch or dinner on Sundays. In most cases, Yorkshire pudding is included as a garnish. It seems that it is standard to eat Yorkshire pudding with gravy sauce.

⭐︎What is popular Japanese food in Britain?⭐︎

So far, I have introduced the popular British food, but on the other hand, what is the most popular Japanese food? Sushi, which is said to be popular with foreigners, seemed to be popular in England. But it doesn’t seem to be the kind of sushi we imagine. “Uramaki (back winding)” is popular with them. In addition to seafood such as salmon and shrimp, chicken cutlets and avocados may also be wrapped. It’s very interesting because it’s hard to see in Japan.

Top 4 best restaurants in Britain

In Britain , there are many restaurants that are particular about interior decoration as well as traditional British cuisine. Here are four restaurants.

◎Baileys Fish and Chips◎

It’s a fish and chips shop that has a reputation for being well worth the trip. The reason for its popularity is that you can choose the type and size of fish to your liking. There seems to be a considerable amount even in small size, so be hungry when visiting.

◎The Gilbert Scott◎

This is a restaurant directly connected to St Pancras International Station. Housed in a 19th-century building, you can enjoy British cuisine with a good old-fashioned atmosphere and seasonal ingredients. The afternoon tea menu is especially popular and is only available on weekends, so it is recommended that you make a reservation before you go.

◎The Ledbury◎

The Ledbury is a modern British restaurant with many awards, including two Michelin stars and being featured in the World’s 50 Best Restaurants. It has been a very popular shop since it opened in 2005.

◎Clos Maggiore◎

This restaurant is said to be the most romantic in London. There have a wide variety of dishes such as meat, seafood and vegetarian menu. The beautiful interior surrounded by flowers and the arrangement of dishes are very beautiful and are popular with women.

Is British foods match Japanese tongue?

Until now, it has been said that British food does not fit the Japanese taste. But now it seems different. It seems that British food has become much more delicious in recent years. So why was it so far said that it wasn’t delicious? It was that the taste was lighter than Japanese food. If you feel the taste is light, try adjusting it with the seasonings in the restaurant seats. I’m sure it will feel more delicious. It may be one way to try various ways of eating.

I’ve talked about British food and restaurants. There were many interesting dishes and restaurants I wanted to visit. I think I can make scotch eggs and shepherd’s pies at home, so I’ll try to make them. Please try it too.

Thank you for reading my blog 🌷

British souvenir

Hello, everyone. Welcome to my blog. Today I will talk about souvenirs in Britain. What image do you have of British souvenirs? Various things will come to mind. I would like to introduce you to many kinds of souvenirs in Britain. If you have any concerns, please check it out!

Famous souvenirs in Britain

1. Tea

Tea is probably what everyone thinks of as a “British souvenir”. There are many famous tea shops in England. For example, Harrods, Whittard of Chelsea, East India Company. Among them, I recommend Fortnum & Mason tea. A long-established department store purveyor to the royal family for about 300 years, there are a wide variety of tea leaves. It is recommended because there are small size souvenirs and there are many types.

2. Shortbread

Do you know what shortbread is? Shortbread is a traditional Scottish treat. Unlike cookies, it does not use eggs or milk. There are only four ingredients used in shortbread: flour, sugar, butter, and salt. There are various brands of shortbread, each with a different texture and taste. Walkers shortbread comes in a variety of shapes. The dog-shaped shortbread is especially famous. In addition to plain, there are some that contain chocolate chips and flavors such as cinnamon, so it’s a good idea to try and compare them. Also, it goes very well with black tea, so please enjoy it together.

3. Eco-bags

Eco-bags are popular both as souvenirs and locally. Not only are they sold in department stores and supermarkets, but they are also sold in museums, galleries, cafes and libraries. There are various designs that show the uniqueness of the place. Some are made of linen as well as those made of cloth and vinyl. In Britain, plastic bags have been charged since 2015, so eco-bags may be sold everywhere like this. Even in Japan, plastic shopping bags will be charged from this year, so it will be more appreciated as a souvenir.

4. Character Goods

There are many goods of characters originating in England. Among them, we will introduce Paddington and Harry Potter goods.

⭐︎Paddington bear’s goods⭐︎

Paddington Bear Shop is located at Paddington Station. Not only books and DVDs, but also stationery, miscellaneous goods, and clothes are available here. The most popular of them seems to be Paddington’s stuffed animals. All of them are cute and I’m wondering what to buy.

⭐︎Harry Potter’s goods⭐︎

Harry Potter goods are a must-buy for friends who like Harry Potter. There are many shops selling Harry Potter goods, but the one I recommend most is “THE Harry Potter SHOP AT PLATFORM 9 3/4. There are various goods such as sweaters, ties and mugs. Of course there is also a cane. You can feel the world of Harry Potter even in the small interior of the store, so you can enjoy choosing souvenirs.

Souvenirs you can bring back home to Japan

Most British souvenirs can be brought back to Japan. However, you will need to be careful not to crack anything in the bottle, such as scotch or other liquor. Also, if you want to give a souvenir, you want to give it in a beautiful state, right? Canned sweets are more fashionable, and I think they will be used later.

So far, I have introduced British souvenirs. Did you find anything you were interested in? What I personally want is an eco bag. When I looked it up, there were various types and it was very fashionable, so I wanted to collect it. There are many things that have not been introduced here. If you like, check out British souvenirs!

Thank you for reading my blog.🌷

What are university students like in Britain compared to Japan?

Hello! Today I would like to talk about British university students compared to Japan. Then I will introduce about study in Britain and what their off-campus activities (part-time jobs) are doing.

Study in Britain

Classes differ between Britain and Japan. Also it is said that British university students study harder than Japanese university students. What kind of classes are held in Britain? Why are they serious about education? Also how are they studying? I will talk about those three points here.

◎What kind of classes are held in the UK?◎

There are many lessons in the UK with a smaller number of students than in Japan, and it seems that there are many classes for discussions. In Japan, there are many classes in which a teacher writes on a board and students keep writing it in a notebook. On the other hand, in the UK, presentations and essays are the basis for evaluating grades through discussions and group work during class. There are many places for students to speak, and it can be said that the lessons are student-centered rather than teachers.

◎Why are they serious about education? (Why study so much?)◎

1. This is because the grade rank at the time of graduation affects the subsequent academic and career. Universities in Britain are ranked by grade at the time of graduation! There are 5 ranks: “1st”, “2: 1 (Upper Second)”, “2: 2 (Lower Second)”, “3rd”, and “Pass (Ordinary degree)”. “1st” is the highest rank “pass” is the lowest rank. This evaluation determines what level of graduate school students can go to, and the advantages of employment for students at the time of selection. On the other hand, in Japan, when you get a job, you are often asked about self-appeal, club activities, and part-time jobs rather than grades. In Japan, it is easy to see “which university you graduated from”, but in Britain, “what level you graduated from university” becomes important, so it seems that the amount of study is large.

2. There are many tasks, which is also the reason why they are said to study hard! It seems that many lessons have reading tasks every time. Lectures and seminars are conducted on the premise that you have completed the reading, so you will not be able to keep up with the lessons unless you complete the assignments. As a result, the amount of study inevitably increases, and it seems that many students are serious about their education.

◎How are Britain university students studying?◎

As I said before, there are a lot of tasks in Britain. On weekdays, they often study in the library after college. It is not uncommon to stay in the library all day long, and especially at the end of the semester when the deadlines for submitting assignments overlap, the library seats are filled with students.

Off-campus activities of Britain university students

Just as the situation inside the university is different between Britain and Japan, it seems that the activities outside the university are also different. For example, part-time jobs, Club activities・Societies (circles), on weekends and so on. What are they doing outside of class?

◎Part-time jobs◎

There seems to be no student in Britain who works part-time on a daily basis like Japanese university students. In Japan, there are many students who are full of part-time jobs. However, in Britain, there are still many tasks and it seems that you cannot spend a lot of time on your part-time job. Among them, the most popular part-time job is a restaurant like Japan. It seems that restaurants where you can improve your communication and speaking skills are popular not only with local students but also with international students.

◎Club activities, Societies(circles)◎

In Britain, most students participate in extracurricular activities such as club activities and societies. There are various types such as sports such as basketball, rugby and tennis, and cultural such as art, music and cooking. Also, it seems that there are many students who do not concentrate on just one, but carry it on. In addition, many students join volunteer groups to volunteer.

◎Weekends◎

British students, who spend most of their weekdays in class and study, seem to go out into town on weekends to play in pubs and clubs. Of course, like Japanese students, they go to lunch with their friends and go shopping. However, it seems that some universities rarely have bars and clubs in the university. After all, British likes alcohol. It is the same as in Japan that the tiredness and stress accumulated by studying on weekdays are released on weekends.

In Britain, I felt that studying and playing were clearer than in Japan. As much as they studied hard on weekdays, I think they’re playing as a reward on weekends. I think it’s very nice!! I found it interesting to see various differences between Japan and the Britain both inside and outside the university.

Pub is best place where we can go to socialize!

Hello! Suddenly, I have a question. Where do you think we can meet people in Britain? There are many places where we can meet British people. For example, participate in parties and events, go to pub, go to the UK-Japan exchange meeting and so on. Among them, this time I will talk about pubs.

Bar in Britain

I mentioned earlier that this time I would like to introduce a pub as a place to meet people in Britain. In Britain, it’s basically a pub, not a bar.If you explain the pub so that Japanese people can easily imagine it, I think it’s best to think of it as a place like Izakaya. In Japan, the image of a bar is that it has a high threshold and is fashionable and a little difficult to enter. However, British pubs are a very rough and easy place to enter. It is also the place where the events and social gatherings we talked about at the beginning are held, and it is a place where you can easily stop by and enjoy drinking and talking. Also, the fact that it is open from noon is different from Japanese bars.

Famous pubs in Britain

It is said that there are about 47,000 pubs in Britain. Each pub has its own characteristics and individuality, and you can enjoy the each atmosphere. I would like to introduce you to three famous pubs.

⭐︎ The Churchill Arms ⭐︎

Built in 1750, it is said to be one of the oldest pubs in existence in London. It is said that the name comes from the fact that the grandparents of former Prime Minister Winston Churchill attended. It’s not uncommon to find Thai food in London, but this one was the forerunner of the Thai Pub. Summer is recommended when the flowers are in full bloom, but in winter it is lit up like many Christmas trees, which is also a highlight.

⭐︎ The Sherlock Holmes ⭐︎

This pub used to be called “The Northumberland Arms”. However, when the Sherlock Holmes room was recreated as part of the “Festival of Britain” in England in 1951, it became very popular. So the name changed to the current one. The second floor has a corner inspired by Holmes and Watson’s rooms, and is very popular with fans.

⭐︎ The Old Bank of England ⭐︎

This was a building built in 1888 as a British bank branch. It was opened as a pub in 1995. It is also the place where the movie starring Johnny Depp was filmed, and it has a very profound feeling, fashionable and beautiful interior.

Beer if you drink in a pub

Beer is said to be the most ordered pub in London, Britain. Here, I will introduce three types of beer.

1. Bitter… A reddish-brown British draft beer. Japanese people have different tastes.

2. Lager… German-style beer with a taste that is familiar to Japanese people.

3. Stout (Guinness)… Dark beer. The taste is different from drinking in Japan and it seems to be more delicious.

I introduced you to beer, but there are many other drinks in the pub. For those who are not good at beer, apple liquor called “cider” is popular. Also you can order lemonade, juice, tea, coffee, etc., so even people who can’t drink can enjoy the pub.

Differences between Japanese izakaya and British pubs

Just as there are many taverns in Japan, there are many positive areas in Britain. The places where alcohol is served are the same. But there are some differences. First is business hours. Pubs are basically open from noon to night (about 12:00-24:00). Also, some pubs may be open from the morning. On the other hand, Japanese izakaya are open from evening to midnight or early morning. The pub has lunch at noon and families with children come. At lunch time it may be close to the family restaurants and cafes in Japan. Also, the payment method is different. At the izakaya, payment will be made after all meals and drinks have been completed. However, it seems common in pubs to pay for each order. In addition, it seems that pubs often go to the counter to order by themselves.

It turns out that there are many differences between British pubs and Japanese izakaya, and each has its own advantages. There are many fashionable pubs and I definitely wanted to go and see them.
